Broad Mountain Power, LLC is proposing a 21-wind turbine project situated on top of the Broad Mountain in Packer Township and Nesquehoning Borough. The length of the project will span approximately 4.6 miles, encompassing approximately 4,000 acres.
Of the twenty-one (21) proposed wind turbines, sixteen (16) of the structures are to have a height of 656 feet (almost 50 stories high) and might possibly be the LARGEST in the United States. The remaining turbines will have an approximate height of 452 feet.
The proposed turbines, while presented by Broad Mountain Power, LLC as a potential advantage for the environment and for residents, will have a huge negative impact on our lives, property and environment.
The industrial wind turbines will not only destroy the beauty of where we live but, according to much of the research and information we have found, also pose health risks to both human and animal life. Many of the health problems are associated with the audible noise and the infrasound that is caused by the rotation of the turbine blades. Shadow flicker is also a concern. When the sun is behind the turbines, the rotating blades cause a strobe effect called shadow flicker. The motion of the turbine blades has also been known to interfere with cell phone, internet and TV reception. Our property values will also decrease substantially, should this project take place.
Given the size of the project, the community that will be affected is NOT limited to just Packer Township but may include Nesquehoning Borough, which encompasses Lake Hauto, Beaver Meadows and other surrounding areas.
